"Ain't no half steppin".
Imma get straight to the point, Big Daddy Kane is one of the greatest MC's of all time....
His influence is so deep, I doubt that the average "106 & Park" viewer can truly appreciate what he means to hip hop. I think this quote from fellow legend Ice-T sums it up:
"To me, Big Daddy Kane is still today one of the best rappers. I would put Big Daddy Kane against any rapper in a battle. Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem, any of them. I could take 'Raw' right now and put it up against any record [from today]. Kane is one of the most incredible lyricists… and he will devour you on the mic. I don't want to try to out-rap Big Daddy Kane. Big Daddy Kane can rap circles around cats"[2].In the 1980's, Kane was the quintessential leader of the Juice Crew. Alongside the likes of Biz Markie, Kool G Rap, Masta Ace and Marley, they ushered in the era of the super lyricist. Kane was the undisputed king of hip hop with very few challengers (besides Rakim and maybe KRS ONE). With his trademark high-top fade, uptown nikes, four-finger rings and Dapper Dan velour suits, Kane was (is) the posterboy of the late 80's hip hop scene. With an extensive catalog of classics, Big Daddy Kane's legacy is undeniable. From Brooklyn heavyweights such as Biggie, Jay-Z and Fabolous to lesser known MC's like Uncle Murda and Maino, Big Daddy's presence is still evident.
