New Music Review: #Plies (#GoonAffiliated)

Plies album cover is deceiving. He's a "trap" artist who over saturates his albums with street anthems and grimy mixtape cuts. Yet, the singles released are almost always radio-friendly singles targeting ryde or die chicks and wanna be models. So who's the real Plies behind that intimidating mask....?

Goon Affiliated starts off with Go live. It has a nice thumping beat and features a confident flow about coming up and Plies status in the game. Unfortunately, the next cut fails to carry the momentum. Rob myself is too similar to the 1st song. Plies talks about jewels and money in excess, same old ish. Awesome is a hilarious joint, Plies uses NY slang on hook and shows his sense of humor. Its a solid Mid tempo cut.

The next couple songs are essentially album filler and don't deliver in terms of memorable lyrics or innovative beats: Bruh,Bruh, Get my niggas out and Flaw.

Becky is clearly the best song on album. With its catchy hook and funny explicit lines about his luv for oral sex, Plies keeps our attention and entertains throughout. The rest of album is filled with average to sub par material. The best of the rest include: All I know and She got it made. On the lone posse cut,  Look like, Young Jeezy delivers a lazy verse to start, Fab drops a sing songy boring verse, highlighted with a Biggie quote to finish. Plies shines with his standard drawl and confident flow.A boring, generic beat and a price checking hook spoil the party.

Overall, I was slightly disappointed by Goon Affiliated. Plies didn't reveal anything memorable or significant about himself, which is standard by your 3rd LP. But, with the streets firmly in his corner and ladies swooning in the front row, expect his goon squad to continue to grow.
